Responding to Challenges:

CHAPTER DECLARATIONS 2010-2016

We SMIC, an International Franciscan Congregation, are sensitive to the great questions of our time.  We wish to interpret them as challenges and opportunities through our experience of faith, during this “kairós” time of grace in order to respond to the call of God in the present time.

care for creation            CARE FOR ALL CREATION

We recognize the ecological crisis that threatens our planet   and that we are part of both the cause and the solution.  We commit to educating ourselves concerning this crisis, to simplify our lifestyle and to prioritize for the next six years the issue of water, in all its aspects.  We will network with likeminded groups and movements, supporting and participating in actions that transform this situation.

GLOBALIZATION AND CHALLENGE

OF SOCIAL INCLUSION

We recognize the complexity of globalization, its positive and negative effects around the world.  In response to this we will educate ourselves and others to these effects, and network with groups working in each country to advance globalization in a positive way.

We will take action to reduce the negative effects of globalization, such as social exclusion and the violation of human rights.
